Songs

There are more songs here than can be learned at once.

Ask your co-counselors, staff and directors to help you learn the tunes.

Every camper will tell you the day seems shorter when they are occupied during the INBETWEEN times.

Singing brings kids together, entertains and teaches character values while having fun!

The YMCA cheer is sung every day when we return to the YMCA!

Be proud, we all represent the YMCA!

Slow Songs

Birdie Song/Good Morning Song

Way up in the sky, the little bird’s fly,

While down in their nests the little birds rest,

With a wind on the left and a wing on the right,

The little birds rest all through the night

Shhhhhhhh, they’re sleeping!

The bright sun comes up, the dew falls away

Good Morning, good morning, the little birds say.

Barges

Out of my window, looking in the night

I can see the barges flickering light

Silently flows the water to the sea and the barges too flow silently.

(Chorus)

Barges I would like to go with you

I would like to sail the ocean blue

Barges have you treasure in your hold

Do you fight with pirates brave and bold?

Out of my window, looking in the night

I can see the barges flickering light

Starboard shines green and porters is flashing red

I can see their signals far ahead. (Chorus)

How my heart longs to sail away with you.

I would like to sail the ocean blue.

But I must stay here by my window dear

As I watch them sail away from here.

Watch the Stars

Watch the stars,

See how they run.

Watch the stars,

See how they run.

You know the stars are gonna run,

When the sun goes down.

Watch the stars,

See how they run.

Watch the moon, see how it glows.

Watch the wind, see how it blows.

Watch the stars, see how they run.

It’s in every one of us

It's in every one of us,

To be wise.

Find your heart,

Open up both your eyes.

We can all know everything,

Without ever knowing why.

It's in every one of us,

By and by.

Pull Once More

Oh yo heave ho

Hi-dada hi-dada hi-dada hi

Pull once more boys

Pull once more

Oh yo heave ho

Oh yo heave ho

Pull once more boys

Pull once more.

I Want to Eat Apples And Bananas

I want to eat, I want to eat eight apples and bananas

I want to eat, I want to eat eight apples and bananas

(Go through the vowel sounds a-e-I-o-u)

Happiness

Happiness is two kinds of ice cream

Finding your skate key, telling the time

Happiness is learning to whistle

Tying your shoes for the very first time

Happiness is playing the drum in your school band

And happiness is walking hand in hand

Happiness is five different crayons

Knowing a secret, climbing a tree

Happiness is having a sister

Sharing a sandwich, getting along

Happiness is singing together when the day is through

And happiness is those who sing with you

Happiness is morning and evening

Daytime and nighttime too, for happiness is

Anyone, and anything at all that’s loved by you

I love the Mountains

I love the mountains; I love the rolling hills,

I love the flowers, I love the daffodils,

I love the fireside, when all the lights are low,

Boom de ah da, boom de ah da

Boom de ah da, boom de ah da (repeat for a round

If all of the Raindrops

If all of the raindrops

Were lemon drops and gumdrops?

Oh what a rain it would be

I’d stand outside with my mouth open wide

Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah

If all of the raindrops

Were Hershey bars and milk shakes

Oh what a rain it would be

I’d stand outside with my mouth open wide

Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah

Flicker

Flicker of the campfire,

Wind in the pines.

Stars in the heavens,

And a moon that shines.

A place where people gather,

To make friends of all kinds.

A place where old men’s troubles are always left behind.

So…

Give me the light of the campfire,

Warm and bright.

And give me some friends to sing with,

I'll be here all night.

For love is for  those who find it,

I found mine right here

Just you and me and the campfire,

And the songs we love to hear.

Da-dum, da da da da da da da da-dum

Pink PJ’s

I wear my pink pajamas in the summer when it’s hot

And I wear my wooly undies in the winter when it’s not

And sometimes in the spring time

And sometimes in the fall

I jump between the sheets with nothing on at all.

That’s the wat they do it in Utah

Arizona and Hawaii

California and Alaska

They jump between the sheets with NOTHING ON AT ALL

Simple Song

It’s a simple song, there isn’t much to it

All you got to do is doodly do it

I like the rest but the part I like best

Goes doodly doodly doodly doodly doodly doodly do

Honk Honk

You are my sunshine

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are gray

You’ll never know dear, how much I love you

Please don’t take my sunshine away.

Waddly Ahcha

Waddly  ahcha (repeat)

Doodly do (repeat)

Waddly Ahcha (repet)

Doodle do (repeat)

Everything’s Going My Way

Chorus:  Oh gee how happy I feel

I’ve got the vision of an automobile

Don’t have to worry where I’ll get my next meal

Cause I’m eating chicken and I don’t have to steal

Everything’s just going my way, every dog has to have his day

Well, I’ve had mine and I’m ready to say

Everything, everything, everything, everything, everything’s going my way.

I’ve got the left hand foot of a rabbit

Guess my good luck’s getting to be a habit

Take a good look at me and lordy lordy lordy

Everything, everything, everything, everything, everything’s going my way.

Oh my clothes are tailor made and my shoes are patent leather

All I have to do is stitch myself together

Take a good look at me and lordy lordy lordy

Everything, everything, everything, everything, everything’s going my way.

Linger

M-M-M…I want to linger M-M-M…a little longer M-M-M a little longer here with you

Bear Song

The other day,

I met a bear

A great big bear

In tennis shoes

He looked at me

I looked at him

He sized me up

I sized up him.

He said to me,

Why don't you run

I see you ain't,

Got any gun.

And so I ran

Away from there

And right behind

Me was that bear

Ahead of me

 I saw a tree

A great big tree

oh gracious me

The nearest branch

was ten feet up

I'd have to jump

and trust and my luck

And so I jumped

Into the air

But I missed that branch

Away up there

Now don't you fret,

now don't you frown

Cause I caught that branch

on the way back down

The moral is

no shocking news

Don’t talk to bears,

in tennis shoes

That's all there is,

there ain't no more

Unless I meet

that bear once more

Sipping Cider

The prettiest girl

I ever saw

Was sipping ci-

Der through a straw.

Now cheek to cheek

And jaw to jaw

We sipped our ci-

Der through a straw

And sometimes when

That straw would slip

We sipped our ci-

Der lip to lip.

And now I ‘ve got

A mother in law

From sipping ci-

Der through a straw.

And sixteen kids

All call me paw

From sipping ci-

Der through a straw

The moral is

My little dears

Don’t sip cider

You sip root beer.

Feelin' Groovy

Slow down, you move too fast,

You've got to make the morning last,

Just kickin' down the cobble stones,

Lookin' for fun and feelin' groovy.

Ba da da da da da da, feelin' groovy.

Hello lamppost, what ya knowin'?

I've come to watch your flowers growin',

Ain't you got no rhymes for me,

Do 'n do do, feelin' groovy.

Ba da da da da da da, feelin' groovy.

I've got no deeds to do, no promises to keep,

I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep,

Let the morning time drop all its petals on me,

Life I love you, all is groovy.

Ba da da da da da da, feelin' groovy.

Patriotic Songs

Oregon Song

When I wake up in the morning and

The sun comes shining through

And the birds are peeping into

Where I’m sleeping and the people

Are friendly too

Where the fresh air and the pine trees are good for us you know

Gonna make my home in Oregon

Where the blue waters flow, YEAH!

My Country Tis of Thee

My country tis of thee

Sweet land of liberty

Of thee I sing

Land where my fathers dies

Land of my pilgrim’s pride

From every mountains side

Let freedom sing

This land is your land

This land is your land; this land is my land, from California to the New York Island

From the redwood forests to the Gulf Stream waters, this land was made for you and me.

As I was walking that ribbon highway, I saw above me that endless skyway

I saw below me that golden valley, this land was made for you and me.

I roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps,

Over the sparkling sans of her diamond deserts

And all around me, this voice kept saying, this land was made for you and me.

As the sun was shining, and I was strolling,

Thru the wheat fields waving and dust clouds rolling

I felt inside me, and all around me, this land was made for you and me.
